Packing Heat 041: Slow and Steady

Full Screen View

I discovered that Full Screen View does work on the Mac (unlike what I said last week) but it's nowhere near as dramatic as it is on the PC. I prefer Page Layout view on the Mac, where I can still see the word count at the bottom.

Yay!

Nobilis has a new novella out at Extasy Books: Centaur 2: Amazon. He also finished his first novel-length work and submitted it to the Amazon Breakout Novel Award contest! Way to go, Nobilis!

KR Silkenvoice had a short story accepted at Clean Sheets! I don't see it posted yet, so let us know when it's up so we can all go look (and say "Yay!" again!)

I finished rewriting a novel that I've been working on since 2005. The editor liked my blurb! Yay!

The Zero Hour Method (Slow and Steady)

Check out Packing Heat Quickie 14 to go through the math of how well a small, daily practice will add up.

I've been using this method on my serialized story Zero Hour, but with additional steps. (Don't worry, only three total.)
  1. Commit to a daily wordcount - 350 or 500 words is good, or 1-2 pages
  2. Log your wordcount on a calendar or spreadsheet
  3. Half a day after you write, fantasize about "what comes next"

Touching base with the story twice a day really seems to facilitate writing flow.
